The Golf Biomechanics Center is located at the Penha Longa Golf Resort in Sintra.
At the Golf Biomechanics Center we concentrate on the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. In order to do this we use The Titleist Performance Institute method.
As an experienced physiotherapist, biomechanical analist and TPI professional I believe there is not one way to swing a club, rather an infinite number of swing styles. But, I do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing and it is based on what the player can physically do. In order to find this individual efficient way to swing a golf club we need to look at the physical and biomechanical capabilities of the golf player by performing a physical screening and 3D recording.
Once we have determined these individual capabilities we can work on improving the individual swing. In addition to this, the data obtained during the screening and 3D recording allow us to diagnose the exact cause in case of any discomfort or pain.
In short, this is a unique experience to discover your individual specific swing and the perfect way to get rid of any pain or discomfort.
The Golf Biomechanics Center’s method starts with an intake conversation to obtain information about the clients medical and golf history.
Afterwards the medical professional will perform a 16 exercises physical screening (TPI screening) and an additional Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). These screens involve an assessment of swing mechanics and biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality, current health and a client history.
After the screening is completed the professional will perform a 3D recording of the players swing using the latest modern biomechanical analysis software (www.swinguru.com). In addition a 2D recording will be performed. After the full screening we will advise the client to go play the course or practice, in the meanwhile the medical professional can perform the analysis.
Based on the results of these examinations we can now associate the possible swing faults to the biomechanical and physical capacities of the player. In case of pain or discomfort, the results of the screens will allow the medical professional to achieve an exact diagnose and cause and lead to a correction of the dysfunctions. Once the analysis is completed we can work with the client in order to explain and improve certain physical limitations which will lead to an immediate improvement of the swing biomechanics.
The medical professional will now also create an individual exercise program in order to improve the physical and biomechanical limitations found in our screening using the myTPI Pro format. After every screening we will report back to the Golf Professional in order to implement the new biomechanical capacities into the players swing. In case of any structural problems we will also provide an exact protocol for other medical professionals such as physiotherapists, osteopaths, manuel therapists etc.
After the screening the player will receive an USB drive with the 3d video, an individual exercise program which is updated frequently, an individual warming up program related to their physical needs and a report for the Golf Professional. They will also have access to the myTPI website where they can find their exercise program and report back to the Golf Medical Professional. The full screening will take an average of 2 hours with an additional hour of discussing the results afterwards.
At Golf Biomechanics Center we feel that every golf player will benefit when taking the full screening.
The minimum age for taking the screening is 16 years old and there is no maximum age.
You will benefit from this screening if you can relate to the following:
- You are playing with a certain discomfort or pain.
- You are recovering from an intervention and have to adapt your swing to your new physical capabilities.
- Your swing and results haven’t improved in the recent past.
- You want to obtain a more efficient swing based on your unique physical capabilities.
